Representative Themes of Urdu Short Story after Independence

Abstract

The journey of short story spans 119 years. In all the ups and downs and twists of this journey, short story has never deviated from the demands of the times. The themes of Urdu short story are quite broad. Today, the stories of our fiction writers cover almost all aspects of life. Be it the realities of human life, the decline of our culture and values, economic injustices, increasing inflation, portraying an environment of fear and terrorism, social indifference or the contradictions of human political and social life. All these topics are fully reflected in the stories of our fiction writers. Overall, it can be said that Urdu fiction has gone through many experiments on the basis of its art, technique, form, language level and style from its inception to the present and has created a certain breadth, deep foundation, diversity, depth of thought, psychological and philosophical aspects within its fold. Now, along with the subject, plot and characters, imagination and emotion have also found a full place in Urdu fiction. It is Urdu fiction that has enlightened fictional literature with artistic and aesthetic values and brought it to the level of research. If we take a close look at the scenario from the beginning of fiction till now, it is clear that this period is an experimental period of fiction. This period is much more fertile than the previous periods in terms of stories and this period will always remain bright and brilliant in our Urdu short story. Urdu fiction has been continuously evolving since its inception. Fiction writers have made successful experiments in Urdu fiction in terms of style, content, and technique.
